Quotes of the Quarter

"I had the sensation of watching a flock of birds take off together, flying in all directions but somehow communicating with me."

Barry Willis reviewing the PBN Montana SP Loudspeaker, Stereophile, January, 1997.

Editor's comments: Whew! There's subjective reviewing that is topnotch and then there's subjective reviewing that makes you wonder! This review was full of prose dripping with rancid honey, asinine analogies, and devoid of even a remote connection to reality. I'll bet the flock of birds were cuckoos. Barry Willis would do well to get the flock out of here! This kind of reviewing is for the birds! It's obvious Barry was winging it.

"If our system won't allow recorded space to open into our room then the musicians will be artificially stunted, or bunched together, dynamics will be damped, and we'll get a distorted picture of what the mics recorded."

Wayne Garcia reviewing the VAC Renaissance Thirty/Thirty Mark III amplifier in issue No. 10 of Fi, October 1998.

Editor's comments: Forget the usual tweak pathetic attempt to sound Shakespearean, since when is Mics an abbreviation for microphones? The last time I looked the proper abbreviation for microphones is Mikes. And this guy is the Editor-In-Chief of the magazine!
